Shepherds of Good Hope reports fraudulent donation asks and phishing attack

Ottawa – February 28, 2019 – Shepherds of Good Hope is notifying the community that over the past 2 days an individual has been fraudulently posing as a staff member at Shepherds of Good Hope and asking for donations.

This phishing attack (a technique where someone uses the phone or email to pretend to be someone they’re not), will display on your phone or your email as coming from Shepherds of Good Hope, when in fact they are not.

We would like to advise the public that we are not soliciting donations over the phone at this time, nor are we contracting a third party to solicit donations for us at this time.

We ask all of our donors and community members who receive a call from Shepherds of Good Hope asking for donations to not provide that person with any personal information over the phone and to hang up and call us back at 613-789-8210 ext. 225 to verify the caller. If the call is fraudulent, please contact the Ottawa police at 613-236-1222.

If you receive an email from Shepherds of Good Hope that you suspect is a phishing attack, please first verify the senders’ email address. If you suspect this is a phishing, please contact us back at 613-789-8210 ext. 225.
